The 100 is all about thought provoking decisions and unexpected destruction, especially with a season that is gearing up for the end of the world. But the characters on the show and the bonds that they create with one another always make quite an impression. Season 4 of The 100 has definitely crafted wonderful relationships, both old and new.
As each season progresses, relationships can anchor you to the core of a plot. And with a show like The 100 where there can be three different plots going on in a single episode, having a specific anchor to the story can definitely help. These next few choices are just the tip of the iceberg, but they are the relationships that I did not expect to get as invested in as I am now.
There is nothing like two strong and independent ladies supporting and looking out for each other. Whispering sweet nothings about the power of the sea is just icing on the mermaid cake. If I could have it my way, these two ladies would be relaxing by the water while being absolutely adorable together. The way they even each other out is freaking amazing and there is just something so peaceful about those two. They are both strong willed and passionate, yet Raven takes a more chaotic approach while Luna tries to be more neutral. But together they find a perfect middle ground, putting their heads together to figure out ways to save the human race.
Luna and Raven became unlikely friends, mostly because none of us expected such a great friendship to emerge in the middle of such a crazy season. But The 100 surprised us, creating both trust and support between Luna and Raven, a relationship that depends on those two keeping each other grounded.
Raven was there for Luna when she wasn’t sure if helping them was the right decision. It was Raven who convinced Luna to share her blood in an effort to fight the radiation reaction that would most likely hit everyone in the near future. And it was Luna who was there for Raven when the pressure of keeping everyone alive just became too much. This really only happened over a course of a few days or so, but if this isn’t one of the best relationships on the show right now than I don’t know what is.
Every show deserves a healthy and happy couple, or whatever a show like The 100 could offer since happy takes on a different definition there. Harper and Monty were also a big surprise, they had an adorable friendship that started to build when they were in Mount Weather together. Monty was there for Harper and it looks like she decided to make the first move in Season 3, marking the beginning of a pretty perfect couple.
These two aren’t all sunshine and rainbows, but they are two adults who are working on their relationship. They go on missions together and even when they have different opinions on things, they support one another. Their beautiful little moments have really become the highlight of every episode they are in together.
There is no real answer as to what will happen between these two, specifically this season when things are getting worse before they get better. But it seems like Harper and Monty are in a stable relationship, one that might very well survive the potential end of the world. If there is only a few couples that could continue to stay happy until the end, I would no doubt vote for Monty and Harper to be one of them.
There is nothing like an unlikely bromance in the woods, courtesy of some deep conversation and jobi nuts. It was a nice reminder of a time when the delinquents had more time to bond and hang out, relying on each other more than they might have the time for now. Jasper and Bellamy went their separate ways throughout the seasons, with Jasper suffering quite a bit after Mount Weather and Bellamy suffering after helping Pike.
This could very well be why Jasper and Bellamy catch each other up on their extracurricular field trip. At first I was expecting Jasper’s depression to intermingle with Bellamy’s self hatred in a rather negative way, with both guys ending up even more upset. Instead we got a great scene where Jasper might have been the one to finally break through to Bellamy. No one else seemed to express that Bellamy couldn’t keep blaming himself for something that already happened and that could’t be fixed.
Jasper’s influence got Bellamy to loosen up, choosing not to fall into a deep black hole of despair because he was continuously trying to make sure everyone survived. It looks like these two will continue to go on quests together, at least in the upcoming episode entitled ”DNR”. Knowing that Jasper’s fate isn’t looking so good, this only makes me want to treasure that bromance more. There’s nothing like the possible end of the world to bring two guys together. Although I am wondering how they will respond to the idea of a survival bunker, with Bellamy looking for a way to survive and Jasper looking to actually live.
Murphy and Emori were an item before this new season yet it’s like they are a completely new pairing this time around. Season 4 has tested them, making them differ in their views but ultimately bringing the two back together. If there was anyone that could match Murphy’s ability to stay alive, it is definitely the girl who would go to any lengths to make sure she wasn’t sacrificed herself.
These two probably have a long way to go but I have to mention the scene in 4×08 where Emori thought she would be sacrificed and was convincing Murphy not to do anything that would make him the next target. Emori clearly doesn’t care for many people but she loves Murphy and he has to feel the same way. Him yelling at Clarke about the choices she was making because he couldn’t and wouldn’t lose the one person he truly cared about was shocking for a character like Murphy. Richard Harmon succeeded though, both in breaking our hearts and making us worry about what would happen if Emori really was sacrificed.
Clarke seemed to have taken Murphy’s words to heart though, so the next few episodes should be exciting for Murphy and Emori. I am rooting for them to both be in the bunker or in another safe place that the sky people create for themselves. It doesn’t look like anyone else could quite match with Emori and Murphy have, and if they can make it work than I have no doubt that others on this show can too.
There are many relationships that get even better as the show moves along, Season 4 though has given us many interactions that are threatening to take over my sanity. There is nothing like two wonderful characters in a scene together winning over my love, and these four pairings were just the beginning.
The 100 returns with new episodes, Wednesdays at 9/8c.
