I’ve been a fan of April Kepner’s since the first moment she joined Grey’s Anatomy. I know others weren’t too keen on her and some still aren’t, but not me, I adore her and want nothing but happiness for her. Which is why I was thrilled when she found love with best friend, Jackson Avery. For a couple of seasons, Japril, as Jackson & April had come to be known by their fans as were the only reason I tuned into Grey’s every week. And let me tell you when you watch a show only for one couple or one character is a lesson in patience.
“I know it might not be what you planned or how you planned it. But we can get married and have an awesome kid.”
Especially since they weren’t even considered to be A team players. The A team was where Meredith Grey, Christina Yang, Derek Shepard, Miranda Bailey, and others held court. Not that they didn’t belong there or anything, it’s just that Jackson & April were usually only called up from the minors when it suited the A team stories. However, that all started to change in season ten as it became more apparent that creator Shonda Rhimes and company were a fan of their’s as well. Slowly but surely Jackson & April’s story inched closer and closer to the forefront. They may not have been on the A team, but they were pretty damn close.
“You want this? Do you really want this? Okay.”
So close that when Grey’s Anatomy featured an episode entirely about their relationship I was in shipper heaven. By the end of the episode, dubbed Japril: TheMovie on Twitter, my favorite pair was no longer together, but in true Shonda Rhimes fashion, all hope had not been lost because as it turned out, April Kepner she was pregnant. Since that episode, Harriet Kepner-Avery has made her way into the world via a very eventful dining room table C-section No, her parents have not gotten back together, but they are living together and it’s obvious to pretty much everyone that these two still love each other very much and belong together. Hell, even they know it.
Jackson: You two are staying.
Of course, just because we know it and they know it doesn’t mean Shonda Rhimes and her merry band of writers have any intention of putting them back together. Which if you ask me, would be a real shame. Luckily there are some great video editors who have the talent to turn any storyline thrown at our favorite ship into a happy one.
