Showtime has demonstrated its Gallagher-level loyalty for America’s favorite dysfunctional family by renewing Shameless for an eighth season.
The renewal was announced this morning on the heels of Shameless’ season seven finale.
Though Shameless has been a powerhouse for the network since its premiere in 2011, a renewal was not guaranteed. A salary dispute left show lead actress, Emmy Rossum’s return questionable. Rossum was offered parity with co-star William H. Macy, but sought rectification for the seasons prior in which she had been paid less than Macy, despite their equal billing.
On December 14, 2016, Rossum took to Twitter to announce her intention to return to Shameless for season eight:
The details of Rossum’s deal have not been disclosed. Nor, has information regarding if the eighth season will begin airing in October as it did for season seven, or be pushed back to its original January release.
Although, TVLine is reporting the show will return in the Fall of 2017.
