With seven seasons under their belt, the cast of Shameless gathers together at the season eight Garden Party for the start of another multi-month process to make the magic behind the critically acclaimed series.
As each season comes and goes in just a little over thirteen weeks each time, the chances for the series to come back once again become less and less likely–but Shameless exhibits an inability to be dampened. Through eight long years, this cast of characters have stuck together and created a series rich with compelling characters, relatable stories, and strong familial ties. While many television series have achieved and surpassed the feat of surviving eight seasons, not very many can say that their core cast has remained throughout it all.
Though Shameless has been a powerhouse for the network since its premiere in 2011, a renewal this time around was especially not guaranteed. A salary dispute left leading actor Emmy Rossum’s return questionable. Rossum was offered parity with co-star William H. Macy, but sought rectification for the seasons prior in which she had been paid less than Macy, despite their equal billing. Contract disputes and prolonged negotiations are normal when actors seek to increase their salaries on shows that have since become successful. It wasn’t long before the news of potential doom was swayed with the announcement that Rossum and network executives had come to an agreement.
While news on the story arc and details about season eight have been minimal, we expect as principle photography begins more news will be shared. There is also no premiere date released as of yet.
