Sharon Lawrence’s character, Margo, will be a role model for Fiona Gallagher (Emmy Rossum)
You loved her in NYPD Blue and you’re sure to love her in Shameless as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence’s role will be recurring in season seven and she’ll be a role model for Fiona. Margo, a real estate mogul who owns the coffee shop where Fiona works, comes in as Fiona’s relationship with Sean (Dermot Mulroney) seemingly ended in the sixth season finale.
A four-time Emmy nominee, Lawrence can be seen in episodes of Rizzoli & Isles, One Tree Hill, and, more recently, Game of Silence.
Also Emmy Rossum makes her directoral debut on Shameless.
As if playing wild and rowdy Fiona Gallagher wasn’t enough, Emmy Rossum will take the helm of the fourth episode of Shameless’ seventh season as director!
It’s not very often an actor becomes director in their own show, but we’ve seen it before in Shameless with William H. Macy. “It’s an odd job directing television because you’re not the king of the hill; you’re not an auteur the way you are in film. Other people do a lot of the work; it’s very collaborative; you’re one part of a big machine, and you’re not the last word,” Macy told THR last year. “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done!”
While Rossum is new to the job, she’s not new to the show. After working on the series for now seven seasons, she’s as seasoned as the rest of them. Though she should heed Macy’s comments on his turn at directing, Rossum is sure to deliver a stellar performance.
Season seven of Shameless premieres on Sunday, October 2, 2016, on Showtime.
