With season seven of Shameless just around the corner, we were eager to get the scoop on what might be in store.
Ruby Modine, who plays Sierra in the new season, gave us the awesome opportunity to talk about what exactly her character will be bringing to the table. No stranger to Hollywood, Ruby was interested in acting at a young age and since then has appeared in numerous projects, including the indie horror film, ‘Central Park‘, which will premiere this fall.
Only a few more days until Shameless guys! Are we all ready? Probably not.
How has it been coming into a show that has such a vocal fandom? Have you found it more difficult, or welcoming?
I was nervous about it at first but they’ve been extremely welcoming. I’ve only had awesome responses from the Shameless fans and appreciate the love and support.
Shameless fans in particular like to try and predict what an upcoming season will look like. Have you read any interesting opinions on your character already? Have any of them been accurate?
Well…There have been a lot of WILD guesses as to who Sierra will be in this season’s story line! Some very accurate and others that are pretty far out.
What has been your favorite part about filming for this role in particular?
I have truly loved portraying this character. Sierra is a very strong woman who knows what she wants and is a hard worker. She doesn’t take crap from anyone and is extremely protective of her family.
Since Sierra is one of Fiona’s new coworkers, it puts her in a position to interact with more characters. Do we get to see her interact with more than just Fiona and Lip?
Indeed you do!
Going up against any one of the Gallaghers requires a certain amount of confidence and/or belief in ones self and opinions. What would you say Sierra brings to the table within the ensemble?
She’s on a good path and is trying her hardest to get her life together. I think she’s a symbol of hope in a room of chaos because she believes in herself and will do anything possible to make sure things get better.
Shameless is a show that is so emotionally raw, it’s easy to relate to even in its unbelievability. Was this something you found easy to jump into?
It’s very much like real life. What the characters do and the situations they find themselves in are akin to what happens in reality. They are all trying to survive. Aren’t we all? I’m happy to say that it was quite easy for me to jump in, with the help of my cast mates and the crew.
Were there any especially memorable behind the scenes stories you have and can share?
I have SO many stories that will have me laughing or smiling for the rest of my life! However, too many to share here. The Shameless team is a great one.
What so far has been the most surprising part of working on Shameless? Either on set, or in your everyday life.
I was nervous to be coming onto a show where everyone has known each other for so long: They’re literally a family. I was scared that I would feel alone, but have been so surprised by how welcoming they all have been. I’ve learned so much from everyone and have received so much guidance. I am forever grateful.
