How To Get Away With Murder (HTGAWM) has quickly become a Thursday ritual for many of us. Shonda Rhimes has done it yet again, and as always, we were left hanging by a thread in the season 1 finale! Not to worry, though, as season 2 is premiering in just a couple of weeks. Luckily for us, we have memories to get us by, and below you will find our favourite moments from each of the main characters.
We would like to state that the following article will contain spoilers! Proceed at your own risk!
Annalise (Portrayed by Viola Davis)
Queen Annalise; the head honcho. One of the strongest women in the series, Annalise has proven to the viewers time and time again that she is not someone to mess with. With so many fantastic moments throughout the season, and seriously, it’s tough to find an Annalise moment that we did NOT like, we have finally narrowed it down to one! Well, one episode. Episode 13, where Annalise’s mother comes to visit, is when we see her being taken care of instead of her taking care of others. We see her vulnerable, as she was when Sam died. But this time, we see her being cared for, and we see her at one of her weakest, which is important for viewers. Her character progression has been wonderful to watch, and we cannot wait to see what season 2 holds for her!
Wes (Portrayed by Alfred Enoch)
Very early on in the season, aka the first episode, we learn that Wes is someone who is determined to succeed, even in the face of adversity. In the first episode, Wes was acknowledged as “wait list” because he just been accepted into the program. He gets picked on and joked about throughout the whole season, not just about the fact that he was wait listed, but about how he and Annalise have a much more personal relationship than the rest of the Keating 5. It’s difficult for us to pick a favourite moment, because there are so many of Wes’ moments where he perseveres and shows us who his true character is.
Connor (Portrayed by Jack Falahee)
Connor has a special place in every viewer’s heart, making this a difficult paragraph to write! However, after careful consideration, our favourite moment would have to be when Connor gifted Oliver a hat. Such a simple moment spoke so much in that scene, because we saw Connor become vulnerable and giving in to his feelings. To the Keating 5, he puts up a tough exterior, but when he is in his private life, he is much different than that. It’s a breath of fresh air to see the vulnerability in characters as it allows us to relate to them more. Falahee does an excellent job portraying Connor and we don’t think they could have found anyone better suited to play him.
Asher (Portrayed by Matt McGorry)
Douchepants; one of the most, if not the most, loveable character on the show. His scenes always call for comedic relief and we know we’re in for a treat when we see him on screen. This was a truly difficult decision, because we believe that all of his scenes are golden. However, there is one that really stuck out to us, and many of you probably can already guess that this is. His dance scene! He dance and twerked his way into our hearts and if you weren’t his biggest fan before, you definitely were now! While this is a classic Asher scene, one that really stood out to us was when he confronts Frank about his relationship with Bonnie and confides in him about his feelings for Bonnie and how it feels real. This short scene showed us a different side to Asher that really showcase McGorry’s emotional acting abilities. This finale episode scene allows us to see the character progression that he makes. Matt McGorry shines bright portraying Asher and we all undoubtably appreciate his presence on the show.
Michaela (Portrayed by Aja Naomi King)
Michaela, a strong willed and independent character that proves herself to her classmates throughout the entire season. Although it was difficult to pick just one moment, one that stands out is when she is speaking to her ex-fiancé’s mother and talking about how she is learning to love herself. We loved this moment! We saw a lot of character progression with Michaela this season and we’re so glad that she learned to become more independent, learn to love herself, and become closer with her friends.
Laurel (Portrayed by Karla Souza)
A strong character from the get-go, Laurel has proven to us that she is NOT someone to mess with. She’s smart, determined, and intimidating; all of which have contributed to her success. Souza portrays an empowering character that does not take shit from anyone, and we couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Laurel! While tough to pick, one of our favourite moments from season 1 was in episode 11, where Laurel is shown in a flashback to her time visiting her family during Christmas. There, she takes charge over her family discussion and leaves once she has said her peace.
Bonnie (Portrayed by Liza Weil)
Liza Weil is back and better than ever as Annalise’s right-hand woman. She’s a tough cookie and we’re sure we’re not the only one’s intimidated by her strong personality. She has proven yet and again that she is a force to be reckoned with, and this is especially true when she is put as the lead attorney on a case when Annalise steps down for the time being. Through the entire episode – episode 13 – Bonnie shows us that she is tough, motivated, and never going to give up. However, there are some moments in the episode where we do see Bonnie and her vulnerability getting the best of her. This is a fantastic episode because we are able to learn much more about her and really begin to empathize with her character.
Frank (Portrayed by Charlie Weber)
Frank is a brilliantly casted character, and we couldn’t imagine anyone else portraying his character other than Charlie Weber. His mysterious personality play a huge part in why we love him. While not a specific moment, we have chosen to discuss Frank and Annalise’s relationship. Frank has been Annalise’s go-to guy throughout the entire season, and we have seen the way she trusts him to do all of the dirty work. For example, he stole Connor’s car and framed Nate. He knew about everything from the get-go yet made sure that he protected the team and his friends. He is a man that sticks to his word (if you don’t know what we’re talking about, check out the finale!) and he is a character that we have a lot to learn about in the upcoming season.
Now that we’ve listed our favourite moments, we would love to hear what you think! Also, don’t forget to catch the season 2 premiere on Thursday September 24, 2015 at 10PM EST right after Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal!
