When the WGN period drama Underground from creators Misha Green and Joe Pokaski first premiered on March 9th, 2016 it felt like an emotional kick to the heart. And at the emotional center of the show were Noah & Rosalee. Underground told the story of a group of slaves and their journey to freedom by way of the Underground Railroad. The period drama came at a time when the country was starting to wake up to the fact that prejudices wrongly believed to be disappearing from our collective conscious was in fact, alive and ever present in our society. A fact that a good portion of the country was already aware of while the rest of us buried our heads in the sand.
At the heart of the show are Noah & Rosalee, played by Aldis Hodge & Jurnee Smollett-Bell, two people willing to go to great lengths to gain their freedom and for the freedom of others like themselves. Despite or perhaps in spite of the overwhelming odds placed in front of them, Noah & Rosalee found love. It was through that love that they discovered that while on their own they were strong together they were a force of nature.
